Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a major risk factor for coronary heart disease, heart failure, and stroke. Factors that trigger hypertension include age, gender, family history, genetic factors (a non-modifiable risk factor), smoking, being overweight, lack of physical activity, emotional stress, and estrogen use. Unhealthy habits, such as excessive salt consumption, excessive sugar intake, fast food with high sodium content, and lack of exercise and physical activity, indirectly increase the risk of high blood pressure.

Methods: The community service program involved health education on hypertension. This activity was conducted in the Maguwo hamlet, Maguwoharjo, Sleman, with 30 male and female participants aged 45 years and over. The community service program took place on Monday, August 4, 2025. The media used in the outreach were LCD, PowerPoint, microphone, and speaker. The method used was a pre-test, outreach, and post-test. Results: The community service participants were 30 male and female residents of Maguwo Hamlet, Maguwoharjo, Sleman, with a total of 70 participants aged 45 and over. Participants ranged in age from 45 to 80. The community service program was highly engaging and attentive, as health education had never been conducted in Jabung Hamlet before. Overall, the community service program ran smoothly, with a strong desire to maintain health reflected in the women's enthusiasm for participating in the program. After the program, a resident asked, "How can I serve delicious and attractive food to people with hypertension so that they adhere to a hypertension diet?"

Conclusion: The community service program went smoothly, according to plan. The target women were enthusiastic about participating. Further community service activities can be carried out at a more advanced level, such as monitoring hypertension complications, and providing education on the importance of physical activity for people with hypertension.
